Organic LED light source for home electronics

Electronic products polluting the environment with many heavy metals before, during and after use. In the United States alone, will be about 70% of heavy metals found in waste dumps electronics. Flat-panel TVs are getting bigger and cheaper every year, environmental costs continue to rise.
To counteract this, a new Tel Aviv University solution applies a discovery in nano-technology based on self-assembled peptide nanotubes, the green optics and electronics. Researchers Nadav Amdursky and Prof. Gil Rosenman, Tel Aviv University Department of Electrical Engineering, that their technology could do with a flat-screen TV production green and even medical devices - such as subcutaneous ultrasound diagnostics - sensitive.
Inspired Biomaterial involved in research on Alzheimer's disease was Professor Ehud Gazit of the Department of the University of microbiology and biotechnology, scientists have developed a new nano-materials, the use of scientific disciplines in both biology and physics. The biological material is the basis for their new range of organic light emitting diodes (LEDs) used in consumer and medical electronics.
TV tubes?Their new invention is more than a clean, green way to create light, scientists say. It also creates a strong signal that can be used in other applications of the nano-World motor drive, and ultrasound.
"We still have its own light source," says Amdursky, a doctoral student working with Professor Rosenman is. Organic nano-light keeps he and his promoters have organic chemistry of carbon, which is inexpensive and environmentally friendly.
Unlike conventional light sources, the bio-derived light source a nano-scale architecture, facilitate integration of the LED-illuminated devices such as televisions and image resolution and improved. Tel Aviv University team recently wrote a patent on their "green" LED light cover.

"We do not need any special equipment, bacteria, or a great machine for the growth of these structures," says Amdursky, who says that the application of this technology is wider than the widest screen. The basic technology and design described in Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, and ACS Nano, exhibit "piezoelectric properties", which are necessary for the development of the small nano-ultrasonic device that is able to scan the cells of the body. Piezoelectric motors and drives are only ten nanometers wide, leading to their use in systems to obtain energy, such as super-capacitors - large storage of energy, necessary for the sun-and edits vindenergi.Undo
